Dear VSTA Members,
We are writing to you with care and solidarity as many in our community continue to process the recent events in Tumbler Ridge.
Incidents of violence and tragedy can affect each of us in different and deeply personal ways—whether they occur nearby or are felt through our professional and personal connections.
Your union is here to support you. Please reach out to the VSTA office if needed. Connection matters, and you do not have to carry these challenges on your own.
Confidential support resources are available:
- BCTF Health & Wellness Program
https://www.bctf.ca/topics/services-information/wellness
This program offers confidential support, referrals, and resources for members experiencing personal or professional challenges. - VSB Employee & Family Assistance Program (EFAP)
https://vsbworld.sharepoint.com/sites/EmployeeServices/SitePages/Wellness-&-Health.aspx
EFAP provides free, confidential counselling and support services for you and your immediate family members.
In times like these, gentle expectations—of ourselves and each other—are essential. Small acts of care matter: checking in with a colleague, stepping away when needed, setting reasonable boundaries, and seeking support early.
Please take care of yourselves and one another. The strength of our profession lies not only in our dedication to students, but in our solidarity with each other.
With care and solidarity,
Carmen, Carl and John
