#RedForBCED

Dear Colleague,

We encourage all members to wear red on Monday, November 17, and share photos on social media or with the Provincial Bargaining Team using the hashtag #RedForBCED or via email at bargaininginfo@bctf.ca. Wearing red together demonstrates to our employer and the government that teachers demand a fair deal addressing our working conditions and the recruitment and retention crisis. The government must provide more funding to reach an agreement.

Additionally, by wearing red on November 17, we show solidarity with the Alberta Teachers’ Association, who were legislated back to work by the United Conservative Party. Danielle Smith’s Conservative government invoked the Notwithstanding Clause, attacking teachers’ bargaining rights and threatening the rights of all unionized workers. Here in BC, we remember our Supreme Court of Canada win nine years ago that restored our unconstitutionally stripped working conditions.

So, on Monday, November 17, wear red to show solidarity with our Provincial Bargaining Team, our colleagues in Alberta, and for our determination to get a fair deal!

In Solidarity,
Carmen, Carl, and John
